Yang Xiaojian

Born in Taiyuan, China in 1960, he is a famous contemporary calligrapher and painter. He has successfully held many solo exhibitions in France, Germany, Switzerland, Japan and other countries. As one of the most important innovators of contemporary Chinese calligraphy, he combined traditional calligraphy and contemporary art to develop a new abstract visual language. His works have a strong personal style and profound symbolic meaning, and are widely praised by critics domestically and abroad. Yang's works have been collected by many well-known private collectors and institutions for their unique artistry.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              "My earliest concept was that I didn't care about contemporary art at all, but the one who changed my concept was Mr. Zhao Lengyue, a calligrapher in Shanghai. He once told me to take a good look at the characters of Inoue Yuichi. I was shocked when I saw Inoue's characters. , I think this is art, and that has completely changed my mental journey. I saw that we were writing the same style of writing the same characters, and we parted ways with it since then, and began to pursue individuality, from calligraphy to abstraction, and began to have Visual tension. Zhao Lengyue said to me, "Writing big characters is not about writing structure, nor about writing beautifully, you must have the spirit of a shrew scolding the street, be shameless, not afraid of death, and you must have that momentum. "                                                                                                                                                                                             The first stage of Yang Xiaojian's calligraphy journey was his traditional exploration. For him, stepping out of tradition is first of all a game with his calligraphy knowledge and experience. He originally had a good calligraphy tradition, and he was able to write cursive with a traditional charm as early as a young age. Compared with lyric, especially in expressing self-emotion, it can reflect the unconscious state of writing, and has a quite personal aspect in the style of pen and line. However, he did not deliberately stay in the traditional category of calligraphy, but actively put his vision into the cultural situation of the new era of art development.
